Koichi Fujiwara

Mr. Fujiwara was appointed present position in July 2003. He
joined the Ministry of Transport in 1975 and has been serving
as an official of the Japanese Government for more than 30 years.
In particular he has been playing an important role in the field
of shipbuilding industry policy at the Ministry of Transport,
and, from 1990 to 1993, as a Director of Japan Ship Centre in
London, he showed his excellence as a spokesman of Japanese
shipbuilding policy.
He was the head of the Japanese delegation to the fiftieth
session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee, where
he actively played a leading role to build consensus in the
discussion on amendment of annex I of MARPOL. He will be also
the head of the Japanese delegation to the eightieth session
of the Maritime Safety Committee this May.
Mr. Fujiwara received his Master’s degree in engineering
faculty at the University of Tokyo in 1975.
