  Yoshio Sasamura

Technical Advisor, The Shipbuilding Research Association of Japan

Yoshio Sasamura is the Technical Advisor of the Shipbuilding Research Association of Japan. Over the course of 25 years of service in the IMO Secretariat, Mr. Sasamura held the posts of Director of the Marine Environment Division, Director of Maritime Safety, Assistant Secretary-General, and others. Since his retirement from IMO in 1989 he has also been the Secretary of the Tokyo MOU Secretariat for port state control for the Asia-Pacific region.

Mr. Sasamura is the recipient of several awards and prizes, including the Transport Prize by the Minister for Transport in Japan in 1986, the International Maritime Prize by IMO in 1993, the Minister for Foreign Affairs Prize in 1999, and the Order of Rising Sun and Rays by the Emperor of Japan in 2000. Mr. Sasamura graduated from the Department of Naval Architecture of the University of Tokyo in 1949.
