  Ambassador Alan P. Larson

Under Secretary For Economic, Business and Agricultural Affairs
Department Of State


Mr. Larson became Under Secretary of State for Economic, Business, and Agricultural Affairs on November 24, 1999. As Secretary Albright's senior economic advisor, Mr. Larson's responsibilities include the entire range of international economic policy. In October 2000, Under Secretary Larson's responsibilities were expanded to include serving as Acting Deputy of the National Economic Council for International Economic Affairs.

Since joining the Department of State in 1973, Mr. Larson has served as Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs, Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Finance and Development, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Energy and Resources Policy.

From 1990 to 1993, Mr. Larson was U.S. Ambassador to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris. He also served in the economic sections of the U.S. embassies in Jamaica, Zaire, and Sierra Leone.

Mr. Larson has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Iowa. He is married and has three children.
